Joyce offers some information about the Textile Arts & Artisan Show happening October 3-5. This is another opportunity for Guild members to volunteer their time while enjoying fiber arts while also earning some RAAM points. Contact Joyce for more information
The Textile Arts and Artisan Show (every other year), in conjunction with the Ohio Mart at
Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens is just around the corner. Many of us have participated the last three
times alongside the Lacemaking group from Auburn, the Qwyntarian guild, Medina Spinning
and Weaving guild, and many others. The participants have demonstrated spinning, weaving,
lacemaking, quilting, needlework, bead loom weaving, kumihimo braiding, knitting, needle
felting and much more. It always amazes me when someone tells me that all of this is a lost art.
The more we are out there promoting the arts the better. In 2022 we had over 3,200 guests come
through.
This year the board has approved you to receive RAAM points for your demonstration
time. Your points are only for your time demonstrating and not travel or shopping.
The Needlework Guild provides a light lunch for everyone. All demonstrators will receive a
pass to get in. There is free parking in their volunteer lot with a shuttle bus to transport you.
Personally, I purchase a pass to park on the grounds and you are welcome to ride with me. As in
the past, I will be willing to take any equipment and display pieces during set-up day. It is very
hard to bring in equipment on the days of the show. I would like to set up Tuesday, October 1,
2024 from 11:00am – 4:00pm. There are trams on the grounds, but they are not always available
and we cannot request them.
Event Dates:
Thursday thru Saturday, October 3-5, 2024 from 10:00am – 5:00pm
Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 10:00am – 4:00pm
If are interested in demonstrating, I have sign-up sheets. You can demo a 1/2 day then explore to see what Ohio Mart has to offer with a few hundred vendors set up on the grounds.
You will still be able to stop in the Stitchers Fair tent which is run by the Needlework Guild.
They sell new or gently used items such as patterns, kits, frames, threads, yarn, and more. I have
been told by many visitors that it is their number one favorite place to shop.
The guild also has a Children’s Corner tent where, last year, they gave out 125 plastic canvas kits
and assisted our youth in stitching. The children get to pick out their kit from over a dozen
different designs. Each kit contained a pattern drawn on plastic canvas, the yarns and a needle.
Several children insist on staying there to finish their piece.
I know it is at least a 1 hour drive which is asking a lot, but the needlework guild has members
that live in Chagrin, Cortland, Parma, Mentor, Wadsworth, Willoughby and Columbus. Some
are even from out of state in Indiana, Michigan, Florida, and Colorado. For years, three
members would drive up several times a year from West Virginia to take classes.
Please let me know by September 9 if you will be attending, what you are demonstrating
and the times you will demonstrate. I will supply a free entry pass and parking pass to those
demonstrating.
You can come early or stay late to walk the grounds of Ohio Mart.
Please contact me if you are willing to demonstrate and for additional information. I look
forward to another fun weekend.
Thank you,
Joyce Fath
